Resilience & Crisis management
Willem helps organizations to develop Business Resilience, including Operational Resilience, Business Continuity Management and Crisis Management capabilities. He brings an exceptional expertise, knowledge and skill in delivering C-suite Crisis Management scenario simulation exercises. In addition, he advises, assesses and/or develops programs for organizations to be compliant with the numerous sector-specific rules, regulations and standards related to Resilience. Following an early career in financial- and management accounting, and project management, Willem developed expertise in Operational Resilience. For more than 25 years, he has led in-house Business Continuity and Crisis Management (BC & CM) programs for large financial organizations such as ABN AMRO Bank, RBS, Société Générale, Nomura, as well as Sands, the large Integrated Resort in Macau. With ContinuityGroup, Kroll, and Thales consultancy, he guided a wide variety of firms across industries like finance, hospitality, aviation, manufacturing and logistics, to develop their BC & CM capabilities, focusing on the convergence between cyber risk management and broader resilience of business operations. One of Willem’s core strengths is facilitating crisis scenario simulation exercises with corporate C-suite crisis management teams, with a focus on strategic decision making, stakeholder management and corporate communications. He is currently a Director on the Board of the BCI, the leading global professional body for Resilience and Business Continuity. Achievements Willem has delivered numerous presentations, publications and other contributions on the topic of Resilience, Business Continuity & Crisis Management to a wide range of audiences. Willem was founding member and former leader of HKFSBCM, the Hong Kong Financial Services BCM professional peer group, where he inaugurated the WISE industry-wide crisis management exercise program for financial services in Hong Kong. Qualifications Propeadeuse Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Degree of Doctorandus in Communications science (Masters degree), University of Amsterdam. Master’s in business administration (MBA), Business School Netherlands. Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (FBCI) and Certified Information Security Manager, ISACA (CISM). As a hobby, Willem maintains a Private Pilot License (PPL) to fly single-engine aircraft.
